When I was a child, I was a very confident kid may be a bit over confident for my age but it never turned annoying. My teachers never got irritated with my confidence. Now I know why, because I was confident not stubborn. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind when you go to your workplace. My workplace is cool but it is so because I am cool. 😀
Let’s look into five main things you should do so that you can grow and grow and grow. These are a few hands on experiences, not all offices need these but to be on the safe side follow these at least if you’re new.
1. Be Confident Not Stubborn
When the task you were given turned into a disaster and you are standing in front of your boss with a bow and a gloomy face because the scolding was too harsh compared to the disaster then instead of backfiring try explaining what led to the disaster and assure him that the faults will be rectified. The man pays you to do your job perfectly and assuring him perfection should not hurt your ego.
2. Be Strictly Professional
Talking about your break up, weeping about getting ditched or weeping about any other stuff excluding your work should be restricted to residential areas. Your office and your colleagues should like you for your work and not for the never-ending love you behold for your last to last boyfriend. This might sound like a cliché but talk about your personal only if you have some “friends” there.
3. Be Classy and a Preacher of Etiquettes
From table manners to the way you stand to the way you talk everything makes a difference. Sometimes or precisely often, all these things play a role in getting a raise or getting promoted. Be the person who represents the awesome lot of your workplace.
4. Be a smart worker if not a hard worker
Hard work might not be a good idea for you but you have to work if not hard then smart. Never, I mean NEVER say no to a work. There is a deadline? Get onboard and try completing it sooner. The more you work, the more you learn and when you learn you will have better opportunities. If you say no then your boss is definitely going to repeat Harvey Specter’s words.
5. Love the job not the Company
Your office hours start at 9 and end at 7? Then I have one honest suggestion—do not be over loving towards your company to dedicate extra hours when not needed. I agree no one likes to stay back at their workplace until and unless you are a movie actor but there are a few people who do this just to impress the boss. Well buddy, it will not be helpful.
Rather it will be better if you concentrate more on efficiency, credibility and accuracy of the work you are given. It is job you love not the company. Sooner or later you shall leave (Truth!).
A simple conspectus that can be drawn is if you are hired that simply means you have to give your best and grow with every mistake you do. Do not hide it; accept it and don not repeat it. Happy Working guys!! 😀
