Who is an entrepreneur?
Entrepreneur (noun): a person who starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to make money.
An entrepreneur by definition is at the epicenter of progress, under the weight of expectations, and in the vanguard of their team, which makes one stressful due to the very nature of the occupation. Stress, in small doses is positive but otherwise becomes toxic to both health and productivity; the two things an entrepreneur needs and wants. Below are 9 ways to de-stress and recharge in order to be more efficient.
1. Catch up on sleep
Lack of sleep can cause more than dark circles by depriving your body of the rest it needs. This can cause stress as you force your body to work beyond capacity and make you look like a zombie.
2. Take a breather
If overworking can harm your body, then leisure time can keep you healthy. Meditate, spend time doing an activity that requires minimal effort on your behalf, visit a location away from the doldrums of daily life, drink green tea, etc.
3. Get a massage
Calms and eases up tension in the body. Unwind with one whether given by a professional masseur or a family member. Light up scented candles and play some soft music in the background for an added effect 😉
If the stress is not accompanied by a lack of energy, then jogging, swimming, playing a sport, lifting weights at the gym are literally great ways to drain out stress chemicals such as cortisol and adrenalin from the body.
5. Get a new perspective
Stress is often a result of a foggy outlook over a problem. It helps to take a step back and try to frame a bigger picture, to take a good decision by assessing what one has control over instead of taking no decision, to create fresh ideas and to move on from setbacks.
6. Share your problems
Take advantage of having a team at your side, they may offer a fresh perspective that will help you deal with what’s at hand better. If the problems are away from work, talking to a friend or a loved one helps. Sharing your problems might not fix the problem, but they will put you in a better position to deal with them.
7. Switch to healthy diet
Some ways to alleviate the stress is by keeping yourself free from toxins. Broccoli, dark chocolate, a glass of milk, hot cocoa, salmon, green tea… these are some food items that keep the cortisol away.
8. Do not forget you are human
Being an entrepreneur would need you to be everywhere all the time, managing several things all at once. This makes you go on auto-pilot mode, ignoring your physical and mental well being in the pursuit of enhancing your business. Before something goes wrong in your body, remember that you are only human and need time to rest or recharge. Part of the package of being human also means you’ll make mistakes, so don’t sweat it. Perfectionism is only fiction. Do your best and rest when you need it.
9. Get help
Chronic stress can reduce the quality of your life, and that happens only if it is not dealt with. If you feel things are getting out of hand and you are not able to manage it on your own, then do not hesitate to go to someone who can help you. There is no shame in it and in turn puts you in a better situation to tackle the demands of your profession.
If you don’t have time to do any of the above, it may be a reminder that you are pushing yourself to the max. To be efficient, it is a good idea to make time to let off some steam, keep our immune system up and running, so that we and our body can deal with challenges that lie ahead.
