Some people create a lasting impression on your mind and you slowly start feeling what the person has to say. I recently got lucky to have interviewed a pretty lady who wears the crown of laughter all the time. She is called Savitha (Hosamane J. Savitha). It was a long chat and I couldn’t stop sharing some excerpts from our conversation.
Hi Savitha! Thanks for agreeing to this one-on-one interview.
Why laughter? I mean, why did you choose this domain?
Why not laughter? Undress the stress through laughter. I believe free flowing laughter is a sign of a healthy, warm and cheerful person. A great gift to reckon with. All of us are slowly becoming laughter-blind as we are repressing laughter. In the process of growing up, laughter has taken a back-seat and seriousness has crept in too much. Laughter is a great medicine available naturally and freely within each one of us.
Okay, there are already a lot of laughter clubs. How is your idea different from them?
Laughter energy can cure us of our tensions, anxieties and worries. The same concept is brought out in the venture. I would want to highlight to people to laugh out of Joy and NOT of sadness.
The entire focus is about laughter wellness as a new form of ‘lifestyle medicine’ and harnessing the power of laughter to promote health and wellbeing.
Laughter can be used as a cleansing agent to de-stress ourselves of our unwanted emotional turmoil and unburden ourselves. Laughter brings energy from inner sources to the surface.
The meditative and medicinal powers of laughter are explored.
Hasovan! It’s a unique name. Is there a story behind it?
Wanted to start off with the idea of Laughter clinics as I wrote down in my dream. However when the company name had to be provided I wanted a fancy name like Laughter Paradise or Laughter Shangri la. Somehow it did not bring the desired effect when feedback was taken, after looking up in Dictionary for a long time. One similar day, when I went to bed and got up the next morning. I started my meditation and the name Hasovan just flashed across my mind out of nowhere. I jumped to the word. Then when the name search was done there was no company listed as Hasovan. Everyone who heard the name loved it. It was aptly suited as one of the requirements of Hasovan was to uphold the wit and wisdom of India to the world.
What is the weirdest question ever asked to you regarding Hasovan?
Why do you want to charge for laughter? Make me laugh now.
Are you serious? People can be so creepy sometimes. 😉 Your website hasovan.com mentions some workshops. What is that all about?
Hasovan has carved niche experiential “Lifestyle Management” workshops. The workshop offerings are
1. Exploring Joy within – A journey to attain inner harmony (2 hours to 1 day)
• Explore and experience yourself in this session where we create chances with choices to know the self. Understanding oneself helps in understanding others and this will strengthen the team bonding. When people feel good, they work at their best.
• Upbeat moods, research verifies, make people view others or events in a positive light. That, in turn, enhances creativity and decision-making skills and predisposes people to be helpful.
• Studies have shown that when a person experiences inner happiness, creativity, productivity, concentration and focus increases. He/She become more innovative in work and create a healthy balance in work and home front
2. Reclaiming inner child – A seven days workshop to become more playful
• This is a playful yet very powerful therapy in which we go deep inside and free-up conditioned and repressed energies and reconnect with our own inner child.
• Once we regain the deep sense of innocence and happiness, it is possible to bring that playful quality into your everyday life and live with childlike vitality and joy.
3. Mystic Rose – A 3-week intense process for advanced participants.
We also conduct open workshops.
Wow! That sounds like a big deal for the ones who attend these workshops. Is this your full-time profession?
Yes, it is my full-time profession.
Great. What was the reaction of your parents when you told them that you’re going to make a shift in your career?
Laughter – Are you crazy? They told me “People are going to laugh at you”. They made it clear that they would not be funding or be helping me in any way if I still wanted to continue with this mad idea of mine. Five years and they still think I am wasting my precious time and money.
You must be a strong lady then. What’s your age? ? No no.. no offense. Just wanted to tell you that you look so radiant and joyful that you can make anyone’s day. ?
Take a Guess. People are amazed when I say I am forty-three. I get proposals from guys way younger to me and when I tell my age they think am doing this to harmlessly reject them.
I don’t believe you on this age thing, by the way! How could you? I’m amazed. Being a woman, and a lot of my readers being women, I’d like to ask you the secret of this glow in your face. It’s definitely not makeup, I can guarantee that. Am I correct, Savitha?
I feel I am more alive, radiant and vibrant now. It is because of me being in love all the time unconditionally with myself.
Thanks for that beautiful and subtle advice, Savitha. The girl gang is going to follow that.
And, you told me about a book you’ve written. Of course, it must be about laughter, joy and happiness. But, what’s that hook in this book that people should read it?
The hook is “How to rise in love with your own self, be alive and live life fully. Explore it yourself”.
Alright! Here’s a question just out of the blue. What do you eat? As in, what’s your daily diet composed of? Don’t bother actually, I just want to know does diet affect our mental state or not?
I eat people’s brain. Jokes apart. Normal home-cooked vegetarian food is my diet. Definitely, food is energy to the body. Touch, feel and love each morsel of what you eat. If you love your body enough you won’t abuse it too much with junk food. Eat wisely for body and mind have a deep-rooted relationship.
Totally agree. One last question, Savitha, which I was asked to ask you. Why are you so serious about being ‘not so serious’ about life?
Seriousness is cancer of the soul. We have wrecked our lives with seriousness. Divinity knocks on the doors of a happy soul. Do I need to say more?
Ha ha ha ha.. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.
